Abstract Submission

The Scientific Committee of the Conference cordially invites submission of abstracts to be featured at the Conference. All submitted abstracts will undergo peer review. Accepted abstracts will be selected for either oral or poster presentation.

Submission Deadline
The deadline for submission is extended to 15 November 2021. Late submissions will not be considered.

Submission Guidelines & Procedures
  1. Abstracts must be submitted via the online submission system on the conference website on or before 30 Oct 2021.
  2. Abstracts must be written in ENGLISH in no more than 350 words (Not including title, authors and affiliations).
  3. Abstracts should contain work that has not been previously published. Both human and animal studies relevant to the practice of emergency medicine are accepted.
  4. You must indicate whether you wish to have your abstract considered for oral presentation, poster presentation or both and indicate whether you would like to take part in the prize competition (please refer to the eligibility criteria for individual prizes below)
  5. Abstract must include the complete first name, family name, title, affiliated institution, country, and email address of every author. One author should be designated as the presenter of the abstract.
  6. All authors should agree with the content of the abstract and consent to be included as authors before submission.
  7. Abstracts must be structured as follows: Background & Objectives, Methods, Results and Conclusions.
  8. The title must be in lowercase, with a capital at the beginning.
  9. You can upload a video not longer than 2 minutes with the abstract to illustrate your work. During submission, only one table and one figure are allowed per each abstract (more tables and figures are allowed after acceptance during electronic poster or oral presentation).
  10. Do not include any bibliographic references.
  11. For all abbreviations used, spell the name in full when they are first mentioned, followed by the abbreviation in parenthesis.
  12. Use SI units for all measurements.
  13. Authors must specify any relationship (employment, consulting, fees, conference fees, classes, courses, commercial shares or copyright) they may have with any organization with direct or indirect financial interest on the topic or the materials dealt within the presentation. If there were a conflict of interest, authors must declare during submission.
  14. Accepted abstracts are eligible for presentation after receiving full registration fee from the presenting author. If registration fee of the presenter is not received by 30 November 2021, the paper is assumed to have been withdrawn.
  15. The submission should be carefully proof-read by the authors. Individual authors are responsible for the accuracy of the information supplied, as accepted abstracts will be printed or showcased in the Conference publication materials. Once the abstract is submitted, no changes are allowed.
  16. All abstracts will undergo double-blind peer review. Only those abstracts judged to be of high quality and relevance will be accepted. Acceptance notification will be sent to the submitting author with further instructions. Final presentation style will be subject to the decision of the Scientific Committee.
  17. Failure to comply with these requirements will exclude the abstract from consideration.
  18. Accepted abstracts will be published in the Hong Kong Journal of Emergency Medicine without further editing. The attached video will not be published.
Notification of Acceptance
  1. Notification of receipt and acceptance, and all additional correspondence will be conducted via email with the submitting author.
  2. Submitting authors will be notified no later than 30 November 2021 whether their abstract has been accepted and whether it has been selected for oral presentation or poster presentation.
  3. The exact schedule of the presentation will be communicated to the Presenting Author on or before 1 December 2021.
Abstract Prizes

1. Best oral presentation
The best oral presentation with the highest score given by the panel of adjudicators during the oral presentation competition.

2. Best poster
The best poster presentation with the highest score given by the panel of adjudicators during poster presentation.

The scoring criteria are as follows:

3. Best research project by a young investigator
Eligibility criteria
The first author of the abstract is an emergency physician with less than 5 years of experience after fellowship or Board examination. The competitors will be asked to provide proof for eligibility at the time of abstract submission.

3. Impact on emergency medicine practice 20%
4. Quality of oral/poster presentation 20%

4. Best research project by an emergency medicine trainee
Eligibility criteria
The first author of the abstract is an emergency trainee enrolled in an emergency medicine training program. The competitors will be asked to provide proof for eligibility at the time of abstract submission.

5. Best research project by an emergency nurse
Eligibility criteria
The first author of the abstract is an emergency nurse.

6. Best EMS research project
Eligibility criteria
The first author of the abstract is a paramedic or emergency medical technician.
